Mid-range budget: ~¥18,000–25,000/day per person including transport, food, and a 3-star hotel. JR Pass not worth it for this itinerary.

Travel tips

  • Reserve the Shinkansen for Day 5 in advance.
  • Carry cash — many shrines and small restaurants are cash-only.
  • Get a portable wifi or eSIM at the airport on arrival.

FAQs

  • Is 7 days enough for Japan?
It's enough for a great first taste. You'll see Tokyo, Mt Fuji, and Kyoto — but you'll want to return.
  • Should I buy a JR Pass?
Not for this exact itinerary — one Shinkansen leg is cheaper than the 7-day pass.
